Could you play and understand the European version even if you’ve never played the original version?

Yep! It’s a stand-alone game. It may take a bit of time with the directions to learn to play and it’s easier to jump in if you have a basic knowledge of the regular version, but you can totally play this one as-is without having ever played the original version! -Meg, MSM Team
